About Us

In 2008, the creation of a Coastal Research Network (CRN) in Nova Scotia was announced as a strategic activity as part of the Government of Nova Scotia's Coastal Management Framework. The goal of the CRN  is to advance natural and social science, policy and legal research relevant to Nova Scotia’s and Canada’s priorities and plans for coastal and oceans management and planning. A Secretariat for the CRN was established in 2009 within the Marine Affairs Program at Dalhousie University to facilitate the creation of the CRN and coordinate it's activities. The CRN Secretariat works with the Provincial Oceans Network; federal, provincial, and municipal governments; research institutions; and stakeholder groups to advance research on coastal issues and support the development and implementation of the Coastal Strategy and other coastal management initiatives in Nova Scotia.
